Blue John is a rare stone which is found only in the Derbyshire area of the UK. It is distinctive by the variegated bands of purple, sometimes with blue or yellow included. This diagonally set example is 10mm by 6mm, with the overall setting being 12mm at the widest point. There is a sponsor or makers mark of ADT and a full hallmark for 9ct gold, having been assayed in Sheffield in 1991.
